Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Esmond and I remember being the most nervous person in the room when I first wrote the CDE™ exam. I wondered what I should study, how much detail, what to memorize etc. I was disappointed that there wasn’t a clear step-by-step guide on the internet. Somehow, I did manage to pass. Strangely enough, it became my unofficial job to help other people pass the exam at my work. I found people had the same questions that I had i.e., what to study, what numbers to memorize, etc. so, I created the step-by-step study guide that I had wanted but didn’t have when I first wrote the exam. Eventually I had so many requests for help (especially from people outside my work) that I couldn’t do my actual job plus my unofficial job of helping people pass. This is how my website came to be.
I have been a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) since 2011 and have helped over a thousand health care professionals such as nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, nurse practitioners, social workers and a family physician pass the CDE exam. In 2014 I won the Takeda Magnum Opus award for excellence in teaching. I’ve become passionate about diabetes education for both health care professionals and patients.
I practice in Calgary, Alberta where I enjoy additional prescriber authorization. In my clinics I initiate, refill, and adjust oral medications and/or insulin to treat people with diabetes and other chronic conditions. I’ve written a number of continuing education articles and done a number of continue education presentations on the topic of diabetes.
I am a huge fan of the comedian Conan O’Brien and all things magic. I love stage magic like the magicians Penn and Teller and Shin Lim. I love fantasy magic like the Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings series. I also love the card game Magic the Gathering.
I would like to also thank my mentors Carolyn Basso, Jocelyne Duerksen and Dr Richard Ward who have helped/inspired me get to my current level of diabetes knowledge. I want to help you as well. If you have any questions and want to contact me, please email me at cdestudycourse@gmail.com. Happy studying! P.S. If you are emailing me about a technical issue, please send a screenshot and what buttons you clicked on to get the error. I am a pharmacist not a programmer. If I can’t recreate the error, I can’t help.
