Aug 25- 2023 guidelines and important website updates
Hello everyone, the new packages for 2024 will be ready soon but I want to discuss two items
1) I have been getting a lot of emails on when the 2023 guidelines will be out. To give some history, since the 1993 edition of the Diabetes Canada guidelines, there has been a 5 year cycle where an updated version is published in the spring so 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, 2018. 2023 should have been the next update. However at the last Diabetes Canada conference that I attended, they discussed they were moving away from that cycle. The reasons for the change is that some chapters required quicker updates and couldn’t wait 5 years (like the pharmacotherapy chapter) while other chapters have had little change and did not require an update every 5 years. There have been several chapter updates (like the pharmacotherapy and mental health chapter) and position statements (like the one on remission or cannabis) so I don’t think there will be a brand new 2023 guideline. So if you are studying for the 2024 exam you should be studying the 2018 guidelines and all the updates.
2) I plan on making some significant changes to the website to improve your experience and pass rate. I will be creating a more comprehensive How To Study section. I plan on finishing these changes at the end of February or March 2024. Also I will be adding in new questions from all the mental health chapter update and the new position statement on insulin pumps. I plan on finishing these changes in February or March 2024 so don’t start a new practice exam until after March.
Lastly, 2024 packages should be available next week for purchase.
Thanks

June 29- Exam results are out!
I have gotten emails from several students reports that exam results are available on the CDECB website of they have gotten emails with their results.
A) If you have passed your exam, congratulations! Not everyone passes so attaining your CDE is an accomplishment to be proud of! Now begins the steps of building your diabetes practice. I have created a webpage for that. Please see: http://cdestudycourse.com/
B) If you haven’t received your results by mid July I would email the CDECB to make sure that your address and all your other personal information is correct. You should be receiving your results soon. If you deferred the exam please email me the CDECB deferral letter and I will extend your account once.
C) If you did not pass, you are not the only person. Unfortunately not everyone passes the exam every year. Even people who have written the exam many times sometimes do not pass. Remember the deadline for the refunds/reactivations is July 31 and remember I need both pages of the fail letter which the CDECB will mail to you shortly. There are absolutely no refunds/reactivations after July 31 for any reason.
D) Just because the exam is over doesn’t mean you can’t email me. If you have a tough or interesting case and want a second opinion please feel free to email me. I want to help you help people with diabetes!
